Chapter 2:
OPEN QUESTIONS
2nd Group of Questions: OPEN QUESTIONS
The second group of questions are open questions that are going to make you feel you are making friends with someone. Kind of ice breaker like “ Peel banana” …… to make you comfortable and reveal your true self.
So don’t say too much about yourself and your private life. Avoid negative points. Many schools really want to know who you are for any reasons.
The thing is they don’t need to know what color are your under wares. Oops! Well I guess you got my point.
Here we go with the first question down below: 🡳🡳🡳🡳
1. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
It is a very common and open question that allows you to say more about yourself and your temper.
About your strengths:
Talk about your previous experiences and point your good organization skills, your classroom management …etc.
About your weaknesses:
Just mention one or two weaknesses but don’t say too much and explain you’re working on it.
2. Have you traveled abroad before? Tell me about your experiences.
Have been traveling to other countries before, is very required if you want to be an ESL teacher.
Talk about if you have been studying abroad, traveled for tourism or for volunteering.
Talk about your experience and what you’ve learn from it.
Mention positive aspect more than negative ones.
3. What challenge have you faced in past jobs and what did you learn from it?
Here, if you never have been teaching before just talk about challenges from your previous traveling, volunteering or other jobs related to teaching.
Make them feel that you are not afraid of challenges. You’d love to have more.
4. Where do you see yourself in a near future?
It’s another open question which is going to engage a conversation about yourself.
By asking this question the school want to know if you are serious about the job. How long you would be able to stay in China.
They want to guess what your requirements in the future might be.
If you just arrived in China just let them know that if you are happy with your job and your private life situation; you will be willing to stay longer.
“Who knows what the future will be?”
