1.      Why do you want to be an ESL teacher?

Here explain that Is it because you want to do something rewarding.

Want to make a difference.

You love learning and teaching languages. And being with students from other countries.

A call from the heart that you cannot ignore…etc.

2.      What other languages can you speak?

Here, answer by telling what are the other languages that you can speak and your level; Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Fluent.

If there are no other language you can speak. Let them know that you are very interested in learning Chinese and even ask them if the school provide Chinese lessons. (Ask the question even if you know the answer).

3.      Is it an advantage to know different languages? Why?

Yes, it’s been proven that people who speak more than one language have improved memory, problem-solving, enhanced multitask ability and better listening skills.

It is a plus when applying for a job. When working in a company it can open doors to a higher position.

For personal development being able to speak a second or third language can make you wiser. As you can understand the other’s culture and traditions.

4.      What are the best qualities to be a successful ESL teacher?

A successful teacher is a passionate one and dedicated to help others learn.

A successful ESL teacher has a positive energy that can motivate students and make the classroom environment more pleasant.

A successful teacher must be flexible and open to change when things go differently than planned.

A successful ESL Teacher must have proper management skills in the classroom that motivates student cooperation and teamwork.

A successful teacher must prepare interesting lessons for kids to learn better so that they can reach their goals.

It also helps if the teacher tries to learn the language of the students to better understand the culture.

5.      How can you manage a class whose second language is English?

Here, point out the importance of being patient. Being always available and paying attention to students studying behaviors. Being able to help students even if class time is over.

6.  How do you manage classroom discipline??

First explain that an interesting and engaging lessons keep the kids attracted to you and want to learn. If needed I can use different rewarding methods by dividing the class into teams. According to their good performances I can add or take out points.
